Rasmussen Pottery Spring Sale & FREE Perennial Give-Away!

Well, it's that time of year when we are so happy to invite our customers to our studio and yard and give away as many perennials as we can dig up! This spring we have lavender, spring daisies, pin cushion flower, campanula, Centaurea (Mountain Bluet), Iris (unusual colors!), Pulmonaria (Lungwort or Bethlehem Sage, a lovely spring bloomer that likes light to full shade) and many other perennials. If you see something not potted already we can dig you some! And, if you have any you would like to share with others, please add to our table! This year our sale is:

Saturday & Monday, May 26 & 28, 10 am- 5 pm. Hope to see you!!

St. George Art Festival!

This year the weather over Easter weekend in St. George, Utah was pretty incredible. Past years we have stood in freezing rain and wind. The St. George Art Festival is Friday & Saturday before Easter so the dates change from year to year. Lucky for us we greeted customers in 65-75 degrees and No Wind! Rain we can tolerate, but wind is not a potter's friend!

Back to the Grind...well, the Wheel

This is the studio this afternoon after we unloaded another bisque kiln. We are getting ready to stain, wax and glaze the pottery. We plan on doing 3 glaze firings before next Wednesday, Feb 15. We are on our way to Kayenta, (east of St. George) Utah, home on Monday, repack and leave on Wednesday again for Fountain Hills, (east of Scottsdale) AZ. It's a little overwhelming to see all the work stacked like this, but we just take it a piece at a time! (Kinda like eating the elephant...). Hope to maybe see YOU there!

Look What Flew into our Backyard!

This morning we looked out our window and to our surprise we saw a new visitor: a juvenile male ring- necked pheasant. Notice the coloring and how similar it looks to the glazes we use on our pottery. It is amazing! Nature really does inspire us! Feeding and watching the birds is one of our favorite winter activities; we get about 20 different varieties.

Do We Slow Down in the Winter? (Not Likely!)

Many think now that summer has come and gone (sigh!) that we play, visit kids and ski. We do a little of all the above but we also take time to re-group, apply to shows, experiment with new ideas and glazes, evaluate and try and get over the burned- out feeling. A lot has changed in the past few years; we have to travel farther to do shows and now we have added more wholesale accounts. Currently we have our work in: Bryce Canyon Lodge Gift Shop in Utah, Jackson Lake Lodge in Yellowstone Park, Wyoming, The Salt Lake Convention Center Gift Shop and a new one that will open in March 2012 in Springdale, Utah. We will continue to produce through the winter months with shows starting again in February. Watch for updates to our show schedule coming soon! Here are some pics to remember the great summer and all the beautiful pots we sold.

The beautiful dinnerware set that was custom designed for a very good friend. 12 place settings, 72 pieces in all! It turned out incredible...so when do I get a new set of dinnerware?! :)
So the studio looks like the middle of summer these days! We are doing more wholesale and traveling to more shows in the winter now and have been very busy...not too much down time anymore! When so many are unemployed we are very grateful for all the work we have lining up.

This month has been all about catching up with pots and skiing! I tried taking a skiing video of K. L. with our very old little camera...not too bad! (He's so good it didn't matter how bad the photographer was! :) But..we think it's time for to purchase a video camera, they are cheaper these days and take great movies!

Why We Spent the Money on Our Tent...

The beautiful snow on the red hills, it was breathtaking! But wait! We're traveling south to get out of the snow and cold, right?!
We were very grateful for safety during bad weather in Fountain Hills this year. We also had great sales!
Weather can always be a factor in outdoor shows! If we could choose rain or wind, we would take the rain. Wind is not our friend!

There were over 40 booths destroyed...the worst damage anyone could remember.
